Idea regarding playing poker through Canadian friend

Postby LuparFiend » Mon Jan 22, 2007 11:22 am

With everything that has been going on in the online poker world for US people, I've been thinking of ways of trying to get around everything, and still get my poker fix.

I'm sure this isn't a new idea, but I want some opinions. Disclaimer: This is all Hypothetical. I do not plan on doing this. A friend of mine might though.

Lets assume that I have a friend of mine who lives up in Canada who does not play poker. How feasable would it be for us to do this:
- He signs up with a Neteller acount in his name
- I give him some money, say $1000.
- He has a 2nd computer on his home network where I would be able to log in using Remote Desktop on Windowns XP.
- I remotely log into this PC and play poker under his name, address and neteller account, thus able to play at sites like Party Poker, etc...

Bill Rini talks a little bit about this in the following post:

My questions would be:
- I would give my friend a percentage of my profit, lets say 25%. I do not know if Canadians have to pay taxes on online gambling profits, so this percentage would be really factor in this. Lets assume my friend would end up paying 15% of my (Officially HIS) profits. Would a 25% cut be good then?
- We would figure out a way for me to cash out some profit (He could buy me some Amazon Gift Cert or something). I'm sure there are many ways (Ya, I know this is officially called money laundering, right?)

What do you think of this? idiotic?

Cashing out profit is easy. He cashes out to his Neteller and transfers money to your Neteller account. You transfer from NT to your bank account like you always used to.

Neteller isnt cloased to US players. They only stopped doing transactions to and from gambling sites.

I wouldn't want it to be their main computer. Just an extra computer they can hook up to their home network.

20% sounds pretty fair to me.

I don't understand why could you not just have your Canadian friend just set up a NETeller account, then register on any of the sites that no longer let US players play, tell you the name and password to use and then just log in from your own computer? I mean Canadians can bring their laptop to the US and still play on there own account right? Don't the poker sites just go by what country you registered from? You could even have you friend play a $1 SnG every now and then just to make it look like you are playing from home sometimes too. That way there's no remote desktop and his home network crap to have to worry about. Would this not work?
