How to play the ladies?

Postby Electrolux » Sat Jan 20, 2007 3:16 am

That is a question I have been pondering since my teenage years, and in another way just recently.

My recent dilemma came from the following hand, but the question is more general.

I get [Qh] [Qs] UTG in a 5 handed 200$ game, and raise to 7. A relatively new guy to the table who had been playing 30/20 over 25 hands (I had him at 20/15 after a lot more hands) reraises me to 21 from the SB. I call

Flop comes 337r, the pot is 42 and he leads for 32. I raise to 87 and he folds.

My question really is how should I play this in general?
Preflop, I wanted to see a flop withouth and A or a K before I put too much money in, and I am in position. But I can see the case for 4 betting

On the flop. His range has to be something like AA-TT/99, AK-AQs.
If he has a PP lower than mine I do not mind him sticking around and maybe fire a second round, and a third round. But a turn with an A or a K might kill my action in that case. If he has AA or KK I would like to find out in some way as soon as possible, before I comitt all of my stack. If he has AK I want him to pay to draw.

With that in mind, how would you play flop, and a future turn?
Call down flop-to river unless a A or K hits on the turn (then we will be AI by the river)?
Raise somewhere down the line?
Fold, even if no overcard hits?

Sorry for the rambling, buty I do not know how to play the ladies?

It's a situational play - I think you played it perfect in this case (a lot of people won't be able to get away from 10-10 or J-J in that spot, and you have to raise because he could be firing a CB with A-K and peel one off on the turn if you don't rais).
