JJ as an Overpair (300NL)

Postby T-Rod » Sun Jan 21, 2007 2:25 pm

300 NL Prima

Villain is 61/7/2.3 and on the river his aggression is huge at 11. He started understacked at $223.

I raise the button to 12 (x4bb) and Villain calls in SB.

Flop ($27). 7[c] 4[c] 7[s] He leads a donkish 6.75. Puhleeze. I raise to $35 and he thinks and calls.

At this point, I put him on an overpair.

Turn ($97). 2[d]. He checks. I bet $40 which is questionable. He thinks and calls.

River ($177). 9[d] He checks. He has $137. I bet $75 and he thinks and pushes. I call of course.

Like my plays or not?

I wouldve checked behind on the river thinking he either cant call anything or has you crushed.

The only hand that calls that you beat is TT or a moron with 88.
I guess if his river aggression is that high he could have [Ac][9c]? But I dont think so.

Okay, for starters he doesn't have "any two" here.

If he had instacalled my flop raise, then I put him on a draw. FWIW, I think most draws actually fold there (certainly at Prima).

However, he had to think for a moment. I'm sure his thoughts were, "Hmm, I have a weak overpair and is it worth it? Well, this T-Rod guy raises lots of flops, so I'm could still be good here. Okay I'll call."

I know that he doesn't have QQ-AA here so I'm 90% MHIG on the turn.

On the river, I could see the case for checking, but I figured he had 88-TT for sure and I was way ahead of 2 of the 3 in his hand range so I was willing to gamble.

He had TT and I scooped.
