Theory Question - SH LP RAISES

Postby Allstar7 » Tue Jan 16, 2007 9:47 pm

so i''m in the middle of a session so this will need to be brief

obv. playing SH youre going to be raising alot of spec hands from LP

lets say we raise 97s when its folded or limped to you on the button

then say the flop comes 943r. We are checked to and we make a standard cb. further, lets assume that the bb has a read on us and knows we are reasonably aggro. He then makes a standard CR to 3x our bet. Are we calling? What separates our hand from a bluff with ATC?

So put another way, is our hand, in essence, a bluff, even tho we've flopped TP?

I fold this pretty easily as the blind's call deprives me of a read.

I don't think this is a part of your game AS, but one idea at Tribeca is check behind on lots of flops when you have overcards or TPWK. Because there are so many calling stations who will call you down with any piece of the flop you can effectively use your position and outplay them on the turn where they actually will fold if they don't have it and never reraise you without the goods.

Just an idea and it might not fit in your game style.

97 on a 9xx board really is a bluff once you get checkraised, because after the CR you're only beating bluffs. Nobody CRs with 2nd pair or bottom pair or 96/95/94/93/92 on this board, do they? So you're beating pretty much all the same hands that you would be beating with AK.

So if the CR bluff is in his repertoire, then you have a little bit more of a bluffcatcher than he probably puts you on. And if you catch a set or 2 pair your hand will surprise someone with TT or something. Otherwise, your cards are almost worthless here. Any reraise or push on your part is a pure bluff.

So I guess I'd say that the flop bet itself wasn't a bluff -- but any further bets you make, unless you catch, will be bluffs.
