I got Flop Minraised, and Turned Trips [200$ 5-handed]

Postby Electrolux » Mon Jan 08, 2007 4:57 pm

In relation to the poll running right now:

I get [Ah] [Ks] UTG and raise to 7. I have 350
UTG +1 plus Button calls.
Button is tight guy (18/6) with 350 behind. He is relatively good, and I havent' seen him do anything more stupid than I would.

Flop [Kd] [Js] [8d] (23)
I bet 18, one fold and Button minraises. On the flop. Never seen that from him. I call

Turn [Kh] (95)
I check. He bets 35, I call. What does that small bet mean?

River [3h] 165
I check, he bets 120, I call.

What line would you take? What do you put him on?

A[d] J[d]
QT
K J
JJ
88

the small bet means he isn't worried about draws so eitherr he has filled his boat or he is on draw himself..

it does look boatlike to me - an 18/6 player might not have popped back with JJ i guess,.,

I call turn and fold river. On the turn (a) I can't decide if I'm behind or not, and (b) if I am behind, but I catch an A, he's going to pay me off for his whole stack, which is $270 or so more. So if you're behind, you're calling $35 to win $270 + $130 = $400. You don't quite have odds (3 outs = about 1 chance in 15, so you should only pay about $400 / 15 = $27 instead of $35), but if you add in the chance that he's on a diamond draw ... and the chance that a J comes and you either win or tie that way ... and the chance that the case K comes and he decides to bluff the rest of his chips off with his diamond draw ... and the fact that it's just tough to fold trips top kicker .... add it all up and I call that turn.

But by the river, with the minraise then weak bet (looks a lot like a turn that just got non-scared of the flush draw), then a big (but not huge) bet on the end: that's a monster and AK is no good.

Yeah I think this is an easy turn call, and a tough but certainly makeable river fold against a tight player. Looks alot more like 88 than anything else.

I had a hard time putting him on a hand, and I have seen the minraise with a draw sometimes. And there are a lot of draws out there, diamonds, that could have hit a K or a J for a pair to, and T9, AQ and QT etc.

And the weak turn bet could be a try to o take it down cheaply (or a way to milk). I have 4 outs (1K and 3A) to the nuts so if I hit I take his stack if he has JJ or 88.

Would bet turn and give up if raised be a reasonable line, or is that just building a large pot with a questionable hand? I think its a bad line.
(What would I do if he flat call? Check/fold river? Even if no draws get there?)

On the river I think it is a fold, and not just in hindsight. Even if no draws hit. Mainly because the Weak/Weak/Strong pattern.

Well, he had KJ for a boat. I did not suspect that from a tight player, I would more have guessed 88, or even JJ.
(Actually I guessed [Td] [9d] or something like that)

I really dont agree with BK here about folding the turn, this weak bet could be any number of things its only the large river bet that makes this a fold in my eyes. This easily could be a draw not a monster, or a hand like [Ad] [Jd] or KQ. Even if he has 88 you still have some outs, the 3 aces left means you stack him and board pair usually means you win the pot though the chances of taking all his money is smaller.

I am not really a big fan of leading the turn the only hands that give you action are hands that beat you. The top card pairing makes it really obvious that you could likely have trips. If you lead out almost all of the hands that you beat fold and the ones that beat you give you action and you are oop for the river.
