Yep, I think it's fair to say that I hadn't bothered to read a lot of the primary sources on the details of Saddam's life. I wouldn't say I was "wrong" exactly because I didn't make any statements, just asked a question.

How about this:

I was deplorably ignorant on this subject.

Will that do as an apology?

Actually, I still am pretty ignorant on a lot of aspects of the Middle East in general. I've got a lot more to learn.
