Sizing Bets

Postby Notorious_JC » Mon Jan 01, 2007 8:04 pm

Crew,

I've been playing NLHE for almost 2 years (I ONLY play NL), and have evolved into a decent player. I've read everything, and am always working hard to improve. I recently got PokerOffice, and reviewed my play. I have gotten a lot more aggressive in the past few months, changing my AF from 1 to the low 2s, and results are much better since I'm no longer a fish. :-)

My concern is that reviewing my #s, my WSD% is around 8-10, and WSDW% is 50%. I can only conclude I'm betting too strongly and chasing people out.

Do you have a guide or recommendation on how to bet? AF doesn't take into account bet SIZE, it only values off of bet/check/call. Can anyone cover a brief overview on proper betting sizes? Around what size should the WSD% be? I currently have VP$IP of 22-24%, so I'm not entering the ring with junk. Is it possible this # is so low because my opponents are so weak? I typically bet 3/4 pot CB if I hit or not because so many fold to it. On the turn I bet around 1/2 pot if I have better then 1pr, or with 1pr with a draw out.

In short, I'm trying to get my WSD% up, since I'm obviously leaving a lot of $ on the table with it being so low. I used to be VERY weak/tight, and bet overly strong when I had something, overbetting to get rid of the chasers. I thought I had solved this, until I saw this data. Some guys I play with exhibit this characteristic, you KNOW when they have something LOL.

I really appreciate the feedback and help, thank you

betting sizes...generally 3/4 pot to full pot.

if the flop checks around and i have 2nd pair and i want my opponent to pay off with 3rd pair.......sometimes 1/2 pot on turn and river.

i also like betting weird, non-round #'s. $23.67 instead of $24. $17.96 instead of $18, etc etc. i think it makes it easier for my opponents to call.

I did further review, maybe things aren't as bad as I thought.

6k hands so far (I know, now truly significant yet), but I'm at 9.6BB/100 hands played, so I suppose I'm just being impatient! I'm still curious as to why I'm only seeing 8% showdowns out of 24% hands played. Only 33% of my played hands goes to completion, which seems awfully low from what I gather.

I'll get more stats and post some HH for review shortly.

and for clarification, I win 50% of showndown hands, which seems right in line with winning play from what I read. My concern was with the limited # of hands actually going to showdown.

It's also worth nothing that my 2AF is cumulative. It started around 1 at the beginning of the 6k hands, it's currently around 3-4 during a session, but it's at 2 NOW averaged over over 6k hands. I have learned to be a lot more aggro and it's working very well.

TYVM.
