In general, I agree with Monk. People are getting taller over the years, regardless of race. In the U.S., many children are taller than their parents. This may be because of nutrition and vitamins. When I write of this, I am not doing so based on research.
I think third generation Hispanics living in the U.S. are taller than Hispanics living in Mexico on average.
The major difference that is important is mental ability. The arguement is between nature..inherited intelligence, and nuture..education and training. IQ tests are really flawed in answering these questions. I have always lived near a large University. Around six in the evenings, you see the foriegn students finally leaving for the day. They work harder on their education. They are also the very best from their country. IQ is formed very early in life, before six years old. Therefore, it seems logical that the home training of parents or caregivers is everything. Race is less important. Look at the people who adopt foriegn babies. Regardless of where they come from, the early training from parents in education and values is more important than race.
The smartest single college student I remember was a black Muslim farmer from rural Senegal. When he first came to my office, he didn't speak enough English to communicate. He learned the language rapidly, making it his third that I know of. I took him to the library to explain the index systems. As I showed him things, he would nod his head to indicate he understood everything. Within weeks, he spoke excellent educated English with a slight French accent. He was incredibly popular with my graduate students. I kept wondering if he was conning me about English.
The foriegn students, especially Asians, work so hard on learning that this seems to account for their success far more than race.
Wild Bill...you are cool.
