"#3 pencils and quadrille pads."
- Seymoure Cray (1925-1996) when asked what CAD tools he used to design the Cray I supercomputer; he also recommended using the back side of the pages so that the grid lines were not so dominant.

"Interesting - I use a Mac to help me design the next Cray."
- Seymoure Cray (1925-1996) when he was told that Apple Inc. had recently bought a Cray supercomputer to help them design the next Mac.

K3nt,

I think you're being entirely too hypothetical on this race thing. Of course in a perfect world where everyone had a high standard of living and education and black people hadn't been bred for strength in history then yeah, maybe there would be no differences. But things are the way they are, and I don't think realizing that fact makes someone a racist. I would agree with you on the point that saying Black= Bad, Asian = Good would be racist, but certain characteristics of one race can be a positive/negative in a given situation. Black people don't get sunburned...does that make them better than me? If we are standing in the sun for 12 hours a day...yes.

Of course in a perfect world where everyone had a high standard of living and education and black people hadn't been bred for strength in history then yeah, maybe there would be no differences.

This is such a USA-centric discussion. There are 700 million blacks in Africa who haven't been 'bred for strength' even if you think the 40 million in the US have.

I'll try one more time - 2 'blacks' are on average more different genetically than you and Ice, or you and a Chinese Man or even you and another black.

They may look different to you but that really is skin deep (literally).
When it comes to the important stuff - how a person thinks, feels, experiences the world, hates, loves, trusts, cheats etc then looking at someone's 'race' won't tell you the answer.

Now of course in in many societies certain 'races' are disadvantaged, poor and may have a disenfranchised and violent youth. If I was Ice on patrol it may make sense to racially profile and I don't blame him for that and would likely do the same in his job (whether it's PC to admit it or not). But what that is about is culture and it can be altered by a cultural shift.

To think that a black African has a propensity for violence because he happens to share many of the same genes as his distant cousin in an Atlanta gang (whose forefathers were taken away on a slave ship 200 years ago to the USA) is frankly crass ignorance and belongs to the age where criminality was supposed to be pre-determined by the shape of someones head.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
