I thought it would be interesting to make a poll.

I understand that it's difficult to group wide ranging issues and opinions into two basic groups but I'm hungover and want a very black/white conclusion.

I would like to ask that people vote only if they think that they're predominantly on one side of the fence and not just vote for the sake of it.

Before someone else says it...

The Liberal/Conservative definitions used in US politics cover a tiny portion of the political spectrum, and all of it is right of centre.

So neither.

I kinda want a very basic result. If you don't view yourself as one or the other then don't vote.

If people suggest other possible options then I could make another more detailed poll (or anyone else could for that matter)

Edit - good point Irexes, maybe another poll would have clearly codified definitions as well, though people will end up debating those as well.

Add Libertarian option.

I find myself agreeing with the board "liberals" more and more, but I do not consider myself "liberal" in the US sense of the word. Far from it. I do not support expanded social welfare programs. I do not support tax increases without a very good reason. I prefer use taxes to sales taxes.

If by liberal you mean willing to question the government and its policies, then I guess I am liberal. If by liberal you mean it in the Adam Smith capitalist sense of the word, then I am most certainly liberal.

So I guess, like anything else, it depends upon what you mean when you say "liberal".
