CJ, I think it depends on whether you're going to be getting serious use out of it and/or away from a PC(your mp3s) for a few days at a time.

I'm a big Apple fan but I wouldn't choose to buy an iPod, I'm not keen on its ergonomics

If you plan to use it seriously, I agree, the ipod is in a league of it's own - nothing even comes close to comparison. If you're using it sparingly, then just get some POS you cheap bugger...seriously, play an extra hour of poker or two to make the extra 100 difference between a crap mp3 player and an ipod nano. You probably don't need anything more than the 2gb if you're willing to load/unload music as you need it...otherwise bigger is better, but I don't see you needing a vid ipod (as in 30gb/60gb).

I think if you buy the clock, it comes with a free pair of Zubaz pants (or Z. Cavariccis, youre choice) and some poofy hair gel...

just buy an ipod on ebay...u can get a new shuffle for $50, a mini for around $100 or a nano for a bit more
