Opponent and I both have about $400. My opponent is a good, tricky player.

Dealt [3h] UTG. I limp. Bunch of othe limpers. Opponent raises to $8 in the cutoff. There are 6 callers including myself.

FLOP $49

TURN $49

I bet $30. Opponent (preflop raiser) min. raises to $60. I think a while and decide to call.

RIVER $169
[6s][3d][8s][Jc]

What should I do here?

I have a feeling you are in trouble. Why else would the pre flop raiser check the flop yet min raise the turn? I am guessing he either has a boat of his own or possibly even quads. If he was on an over pair, I can not see him checking that flop. Maybe with AA?

If I were you, I think I would've led into him on the flop for a small bet and tried to get a lot of dead money in the middle and see what action he takes from there.

The river, I would first pray that he's on AJ and then I would bet 1/2 pot and see if he pushes (in which case I might fold even though it would be extremely hard to do). Maybe he'll call a 1/2 pot bot with an over pair. I do not see him pushing with an overpair since the Jacks are paired up.

I say check-call. You have him beat, I personally dont think there is much doubt about that. He is trying to represent JJ, but I dont buy it. I put him on a hand like .

Let him bluff at the river and just call him down. I cant see him having a hand that he is going to call a re-raise with.

i'm agreeing with the check call theory here.

he may check behind you with AK, but i think after raising there he's likely to stab at the pot on the river.

Ii don't like leading into him, and he's once again probably only going to call with a better hand, and check raising is out of the question for the same reason.

so what happened?

I deicded he held AA...and put I $30 value bet on the river.

He called and mucked AJ...i was shocked...i didn't think he was play AJ like that. I wish I had put a large bet out.

I don't think he would have bet the river...he's a smart player...a set has too be really scary for him at this point. I think if I had bet half the pot here or perhaps a little more..I would have played the hand perfectly.

You describe your opponent as good, but I think you need to re-evaluate your opinion of him. He raised multiple limpers with AJ and then checked a jack high raggy flop in seven way action?

Bad play, very bad play.
