Why did you check behind on the turn? that is an open invite for anyone mildly aggressive to bet at you on the river with any 2 cards.
IMO this is a good line against an aggressive opponent who likes to bluff. By checking the turn you just induce this bluff on the river, this is especially good if he could float you with 2 overcards on flop.
