The People's Champion

Since the People are donkeys, we have their leader, now!

Geez, as we all know, tournament poker is one gigantic crapshoot in which a luckbox can win. If there was any doubt, now there's absolute proof. And we can expect a large influx of donkeys, monkeys and fish...if there really are any left out there who haven't gotten into the game.

I had no respect for Moneymaker--still don't--and Robert Varonkyi wasn't all that hot, either, but I think Jamie Gold will prove those guys to be true poker geniuses. Don't for a moment think I'm jealous, cause that simply isn't the case. It's not my ambition to even play in the Main Event. I'm just appalled that this guy who's the donkey's donkey could somehow catch miracles and dodge good players for 8 days, and take down a win that makes him the largest winner in poker tournament history. This one win makes him a bigger winnner for his career than Daniel Negreanu's 8 mil career winnings. Like some clown winning the World Series of Putt Putt and is now a bigger winner than Tiger Woods. Something just isn't right about that.

I've been a supporter of the main event as the People's Championship where even the Moneymaker's of the world can win. We should celebrate it and enjoy it. Should. Not any more.

This has turned into a long, bad joke. Long Live the Donkey's Champion.

eh gold can really play deepstack. The ex-agent/current producer/Team Bodog member was chip leader since Day 4. He never relinquished the chip lead during nearly 14 hours of final table play. Only for brief periods did he not have at least a 2-to-1 chip advantage over his nearest competitor. I think it'll be fun to watch. And yeah he got lucky but thats mandatory to win this event.

Was reading some quotes from the new champ after he won. This one stood out...

"Blueberries are brain food. I love to eat them. They make me feel good. Blueberries were probably the reason why I won."

Good ambassador or not. If he can keep pumping out quotes like this during his reign, then I will be happy. I don't ask much out of life, just a little entertainment now and then.
