I'm reading that this was the theme of the day apparently.
Statler: I wonder if there really is life on other planets?
Waldorf: What do you care? You don't have a life on this planet.

It shows you how cheap an act Harrahs is when they commence play of a $50,000 HORSE tourney with pre used cards. Especially when the field of players will be so likely to actually notice marked cards. Duh!

Cardplayer.com

LIMIT HOLD'EM

After spotting a marked card, Andy Bloch makes the dealer fan out the deck in an effort expose any more possibly marked cards. Bloch then proceeds to go through the deck and bend all of the cards he believes to be marked. The floorman tells Andy, "Don't you dare do that again." Andy stands up in protest and gives the floor man a lashing for allowing a used deck to begin play in the H.O.R.S.E. event. The floorman warns Andy that if he doesn't calm down or if he bends anymore cards, Andy will be given a 10 minute penalty. Andy then tells the floor man, "Go ahead, give me a penalty..." He then says that he should call the gaming commission about the matter. After expressing his concern, Andy wallks away from the table and takes his punishment.

Using an old deck at the start of a tournament means they will of course be marred, but there is a greater chance that some will also be marked.

lets not forget that most casinos use KEM cards. While i haven't played at the WSOP, or even payed much attention to the cards in play, i can only assume they use KEM cards.
card rooms like these because they're incredibly durable, plastic, washable, and best of all, can last through thousands upon thousands of games before the need to rechange them.

if the event was using KEM cards, there's no way that they would have been marred and caused such a reaction. they would have had to have been marked. Though why anyone would mark a '5' is beyond me. definatly a strange choice all things considered.

You would think for an event in which they charge $50,000 a pop plus event fees, they could pony up for some new cards...come on, I am sure they can get a bulk discount LOL.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

Xas...that 2k entry goes almost entirely back to the players, remember...it's the 2k+x where the x is the house take that has to pay for the cards, chips, dealers, space, etc..
