NL Ring Game on Poker Room .25/.50 $25 buy-in (I know I play low stakes)

Bear with me because I don't have the hand history right in front of me...

I pick up AA UTG. Normally I will raise aces, but this is a relatively tight table, so I just call. One MP calls, guy right behind him raises to a $1. This guy is a decent player by what I have seen, so I am a bit leery of this raise. Two callers, back to me I raise to $3 (trying to get this guy to play back at me with what I hope is Kings). MP calls (this guy is the worst player at the table). MP+1 calls, others fold.

so we have....

Me ($40)
MP ($15)
MP+1 ($60)

Flop comes

I bet $2. Both Call.

Turn is

Now I decide to take the pot down. I bet $10. MP has called off enough of his money apparently, and folds. MP+1 calls. This surprised me. I was expecting either a fold or a raise. At this point I am almost positive he is on a large pocket pair.

River comes

Now I am almost sure I am beaten. I figure my only shot at winning is to represent the flush, which I am pretty sure he doesn't have. So I move my remaining $20+ in.. After almost timing out, he folds.

So was this desparate play too reckless? Did I play too passively on the flop? Any suggestions appreciated.

I dont believe for a minute that he had a set of 9's.

So you would just put him on a big ace that he hit, like AJ?

Its hard to say what he had, but I dont anyone is playing a set like that. Anyone who is bad enough to play a set like that is not going to fold even when there is a flush on the board.

no way that guy had trip 9's...or he's just an idiot....Smooth calling a $2 bet on the flop w/ trips and a flush draw in a 3 way pot? he obviously was the preflop aggressor, so its not like he has to slowplay to get action....
