Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

I went on the computer that is wired into the router and went to the router's IP address in the browser. It brought up all sorts of nonsense that I didn't understand but I finally found a thing that lists IP and MAC addresses. It listed 3 IP addresses and 4 MAC addresses. Next?

Furthermore, the IP address I am seeing on my computer, is not one of the 3 listed addresses, on Jenn's computer. Charles' IP address is.

This thread has enormous unintentional comedy value.

Just a clarification, I'm using a desktop with a USB wireless reciever, not a laptop with a wireless card.

It is set to "obtain an IP address automatically."

Wireless can be a real pain in the ass somtimes failing with no real reason for it not to work. I've helped quite a few friends setup networks and sometimes I am at a complete loss. I will also agree that it's one of the most frustrating things to deal with. The funniest part is the best resource to troubleshoot the problem is the internet, which you can't get on. One thing I always try is to simply unplug the cable/dsl modem + router and leave them off for 5-10 minutes. When I say unplug I mean physically remove them from the outlet. When you hook them back it forces everything to sort of reconfigure. At least in my case the cable modem has to grab a new IP and what not and the router has to start up. Two things that always screw up stuff for me include: power outages / surges, beating on the router with P2P programs and just normal use. Both of which I usually cure by simply restarting them. Also in my experience computer hardware hardly ever fails so if it was working and then suddely stopped the problem is most likely the configuration. Just my 2 cents.
