I went round the world for a year when I was 26 - best year of my life....

I can personally recommend the flollowing (which all have the advantage of you not needing a foreign language):

Fiji, New Zealand and Oz (they are in good times zones for internet poker play too - US and Euro peaks during the day, so your nights are free for partying!). IN NZ check out the South Island mainly. In Oz Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are gerat cities. To chill out head up the East coast with all the 18 yr old Brit and Scandy backpackers to the hippy town of Byron Bay or the 'Vegas In Oz' that is Surfer's Paradise - tacky but fun.

Thailand is great too.
Nepal is the most beautiful country on the planet (and looks like it's safe again after a few years of unrest) - dawn over the Annapurna range is the single most amazing thing I have ever seen).

India is an experience like no other - and even the most confirmed hedonist would rate the full moon parties in Goa...

Europe - rememebr Europe is small by US standards - you can travel anywhere in it in about 2 hours by plane so you can see all sorts of things.
Prague is a great place for young american ex pats.
So is Tallinn in Estonia (cheap with some of the prettiest women on the planet)
Copenhagen is a personal favorite of mine especially around Vetserbro district (but not cheap)
Paris is beautiful and cultured but expensive and not really what you are looking for I guess (and not very handy unless you speak French)
London is also very expensive but I think you would like it. Lots of Poker, partying, culture, women (did I imagine it or did an American call English women fat?) and the most amazingly diverse city with great nightlife.
And finally if you are feeling rich and want to really party then it has to be Iceland.
