I don't like MMA much but JD, your argument that the fact that only one person has apparently died in its history doesn't mean anything seems a bit daft.
Yeah, of course it's a dangerous sport, but the fact that nobody's died doing it (even if there are relatively few people who do it) suggests at least that it's not terribly lethal, compared to more impact-based fighting sports (boxing for instance). Of course folks get hurt doing it but the statistic at least demonstrates that it's not especially lethal, compared to, say, boxing. I think the sample size is large enough for the low % of fatality to be meaningful!
