As far as firewalls go, you'll need to open the appropriate port in order to get out. If you're seeing people who clearly aren't BTP people, you can probably connect but aren't on the right network/channel.
Here's how to do it in GAIM, if you use that.
Don't use Test1 and Test2 -- put your own info there.
