Poker Ettiquette Question?

Postby MTPaid » Sat Apr 15, 2006 5:42 pm

Wasn't sure where to post this so if it needs to be moved please do so.

SNG w/ the following hand. What is the proper way to handle this situation? May not have had any effect on the outcome of the hand, but I'm not sure. I don't think the offending player did it on purpose or even knew what he was doing.

After hand was over I asked him politely to please not say anything when other players are still in the hand. Like I said, I don't think he did it on purpose. He said that he was in the hand too and I replied that yeah, I know, but there are 2 other people in the hand as well.

I am right aren't I? Would you have handled it the same way? If he was a D*** I would have no problem e-mailing admin either though, but he wasn't. Actually ended up HU against him at the end.

You're right, he shouldn't have done that. But like you said, he probably wasn't thinking about the other two players.

My own view is that whilst you are in the hand you can say anything you want about possible other holdings and that's OK - just normal coffee-housing.

That said - if he knows he is going to fold what is the point of announcing that he has noticed the possible straight? Just ego-massage congratulating himself of a good fold or is he trying to rep that he had something stronger than air when he CB'd?

I tend to report abusive language and maybe stuff like this if he wasn't in the hand. As he is, I might just type something like 'thanx for the tip-off' at the end ..

Poker and etiquette aren't ususally terms I think that go together, and as far as I'm concerned they can say whatever they want.

I think that while in a hand you really can say whatever you want, I often talk to one player while I'm in a hand with two people. Looking at someone and telling them that you know you have the other player beat but are scared by their call, gathers information from both players.

I think this case is borderline, I think this guy was planning to fold anyways so saying you had a straight was uncalled for. Obviously player not in the hand shouldnt talk about the cards in play.

I think this thread is best if you simply read the title and then skip everything down to Ian's response.
