I want my 2nd one to have a 17" monitor. Does anyone know what the hell the difference between XGA, WXGA and SXGA is?

Also, the one I have now is great, but the screen is a little hard to see in bright sunlight. Whats the deal with "tru bright" or "xtra bright" technology? Are the screens really alot brighter?

Hey Ice if you have to much money you can send me some, I would love to have the bankroll to play the 5/10 game at Sycaun Indian casino down here. For some reason a lot of the players who lose a lot of money in 2/4 have decided that 5/10 is now their new game. Dont ask it doenst make any sense to me either.

VGA is 800x600
Svga is 1024x768
XGA is 1280X1024?
Wxga is a wide version, usually 1920x1220 or similar(great for movies)
SXGA is 1600X1200

I know little to nothing about those technologies.

I have a friend with a laptop with some 'extra bright' display and let me tell you the screen is amazing.

The only downside is that it's pretty 'glassy', so you can see reflections but otherwise it's a world apart from normal screens.

Best thing to do is to check it out in a shop, then buy it on the 'net.

I was at my local BestBuy today and I saw two 17" laptops that I really liked. One was made by Sony with the XBrite screen. it apparently doubles as a TV and has recording capabilities. The second one was a Toshiba one with the Trubrite screen. Both were Widescreen, and their screens looked really nice. They were each close to 3K though.

And to respond to Iceman. Get a 17 inch with WUXGA if you can. See for a screenshot from my WUXGA.

And YES the brighter screen stuff is REALLY good. The Dell 17 inch widescreen WUXGA has the glossy bright screen and it's spectacular. Comparing it to a regular screen is like night and day. The only bad thing is if you sit with a light right behind you or with the sun hitting it, it's going to glare a bit. In normal conditions it's perfect though. Other people might see some reflections when viewing from an angle, but if you're straight on without a light directly behind you, it's perfect.

Yeah - the bright vs. regular thing is basically like glossy vs. matte finish. The bright screens look really good, but can be troublesome if you work outdoors or in a place which is brightly lit. Regular home lighting seems ok, but I sometimes have trouble with the fluorescent lighting in some buildings.

Someone is reading REALLY old posts . I made this post a friggin year ago and Ive had my Dell 9300 with WUXGA 17 " screen for a long time now.
