Is cornmeal the same as cornflower?

Postby Molina » Wed Mar 29, 2006 11:31 pm

Having got myself into a situation which involves me cooking for people, I planned on making chili with cornbread topping, the latter requiring 650g of cornmeal.

Cooking expert housemate isn't definite that cornmeal is the same thing as cornflower.

Also, the bastard cornbread requires buttermilk which I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get, could I just use full fat milk?

I have 8 hours until I go to the supermarket, unfortunately I realise the US population of the forum will be asleep for most of this period.

thanks

In the UK, cornflour = cornstarch. So, no, it's not cornmeal. I would defnintely not use buttermilk as a substitute for anything else.
