1/2 PLO 6max hand (top 2 on drawy board oop)

Hey all, it's been a while since i've posted here/played any PLO but I want to get back into it and hopefully make it to some of the higher stakes games. They look pretty soft.

I feel very rusty and need a refresher on a lot of basics and hopefully some of my threads can be catalysts for some good discussion on more advanced concepts.

Anyway.

I'd like to know about pf in this hand and how to approach the flop. I haven't got any reads on this opponent.

regarding reads, i think i'd just play tight ABC against an unknown. that means that i wouldn't push any marginal edges in which i'm a small favorite or a big dog (e.g., most 2pr hands). in plo8, my lines vary _drastically_ based on reads. furthermore, i find that many pto stats can be very revealing -- perhaps moreso than nlhe stats these days.

pf call is loose but ok, imo. i'd probably fold if villain is a decent player.


1) yes... again, for an abc-line, your hand is pretty fucking worthless without reads. if you get it in on the turn, you'll have no idea where you're at. this is one of those hands in which my line varies to the extremes based on reads.

2) yes.... again, without reads. i think floating oop in plo is generally a stupid play. i might actually prefer fold>call>raise if i think i can push villain off of his hand on a turn scare card.... and i find myself back to reads.

I mean seriously, this table with its stacks was made for shortstacking.

As it happens, this hand really depends on table dynamics. There is no one-size-fits-all here. There is a case for leading, check-folding, and check-raising, and check-floating. Against unknowns at what appears (from stack sizes) to be an active table, I'd go ahead and jam if HU ince villains will have a wide range including a lot of shit that you are ahead of. This is totally a play by feel hand though.

Something like these hands:

Monster draws {FD + wrap}. {NFD + pair + gutshot or better}
Monster hands {top set}, {middle set + some sort of redraw}, {bottom set with a fairly decent redraw}
Marginal hands {top 2 or top 3}, {some sort of bare straight draw with no flush draw}
Air

These are the hands I would lead with, I would fold air and marginal hands to a raise, and 3bet with my monster hands or monster draws. If just called I would double barrel almost my whole range on certain turn cards (ie if the board pairs, or if my hand improves} and check/fold my air/marginal hands on some turn cards {ie a heart that completes a straight that I don't have} but the turn would be more of a decision based on any read I may have, bet timing tells, stack sizes, etc. I think a lot of people will call the flop with something like a bare overpair to 'see what we do on the turn', so it's not a bad idea to fire every turn card with our air/marginal hands, we can rep the flush if it hits, or a straight, or just continue to rep 2pr/set.

A couple of days ago I almost never led into the PFRr. Now I'm doing it a LOT. It's much more effective in PLO than in NLHE, imo.

Hmmm I must say I kind of disagree with some of ya - I don't think this is a hand to be entering a raised pot out of position with. In position, sure. I'd think this hand is in the bottom 25% of PLO hands, and you're in the worst seat on the table.

I think I bet the flop.
