I am one of those that doesnt play tourneys. My 2 cents, tourneys are much more frusterating, also in the short run they are even more luck dependant than cash games. I have seen a bunch of terrible players get to final tables based on pure luck, it is very rare that a terrible player leaves a cash game with money if they stick around after they win a couple big pots. I am pretty sure that if I played all tournies I would be a winner in the long run too, but the frusteration and extra stress isnt worth it for me, Tourney players can go weeks not winning a single cent and only big making money when I have my one big tourney finish for me this is more mental strain than I need/ want. Suhleafs pointed out that tournies are where the glory is, and he is right. The tourney winners like Gus Hanson who are flat broke are bigger names than guy like Chau Giang and Chip Reese, but I think I'd much rather be rich and not so well know. I have had consistant success in cash games, and if it aint broke why fix it.

Many "tournament" players also play cash games and vice versa. It is rare that a cash game player makes national or international attention because of lack of TV and attention given to cash games.

A friend of mine used to be an exclusive tournament player. When in the middle of a long losing streak it is brutal for her. Once the suggestion of playing cash games to fund her tournament playing sunk in, she became a profitable poker player on a weekly basis instead of a monthly one.

He isn't broke, nor did he get hit by a bus. He got spanked for a large sum of money a while back playing $4000/$8000 regularly for a while, but he ain't broke.

I heard from a couple of dealers in Vegas that Hanson was broke. One at the bellagio and one at the MGM, both had the same story that he was into Doyle for 4 mil.

While I suppose that could very well be true I would have to wonder just how someone working as a dealer would come by that information. Not like Doyles gonna ask a dealer for advice, whether it be about cards or loaning money.
Then again, I am neither a dealer nor a Vegas pro so who am I to say.
