So I'm going to buy a new desktop. Do I just wait for Vista which should be out in 1Q 2007,

OR should I NOT wait because Vista will be just a memory hog without much functionality and it will take 2 years for all your basic software to be geared towards it anyway?

I'm pretty much running poker software, PT, Excel and MS Office, and a few games now and then but nothing serious like WOW.

My housemate works for a PC manufacturer and he says Vista is dreadful. From what he's said I wait for about a long while and wait for them to improve it a lot.

Also, there's going to be loads of different versions, there's a basic version that apparently is totally crippled in terms of functionality.

If you're gonna buy a new PC then it's obviously gonna be pretty decent anyway, a decent memory card will be necessary for Vista, along with at least a gig of RAM.

I'd try using Vista on someone elses PC after it comes out. They've basically tried to copy Mac OS X and failed.

If you must have a new PC now, get one (with XP Pro obviously) and install Vista sometime in the future when it's stable. Many new PC's will come with a nasty little Vista Capable sticker on them. Just do the usual thing of making sure you've got bags of RAM (go for 2G) and a big HD and you'll be fine.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.
