I was in Paris two weeks ago. It was clear Sarko was going to win and people were furious. It's a wonderful city, tho - I must admit I was all geared up to hate it (I have no liking for french culture in general and I assumed it would be dirtier than most cities, which it was in some ways but not others). I feel really sorry for the folks there who were tearing Sarkozy posters off walls as they went past to their dull middle-class jobs; I think he got in on a bit of a uber-rich/farmers' vote, from what I could tell. Most people I tried to engage in hopeless French discussions about politics hated one of the other, but most hated Sarkozy, and I didn't venture outside of the fancy, rich areas of the city. I kind of agreed that, given his record of policy in the last two years, his governance would be divisive, rather than (as he claims) inclusive, but I suppose time will tell.
If you're interested, here's what Paris looks like through a degenerate British poker players' eyes....
