Ice is really right about moving up in poker games. It is very difficult because you are moving from one group of players to another group that plays better.

Once in Las Vegas, many years back, I got in the 2,5 no limit Hold 'em game on my first afternoon in town and won $4500. I put that money in a ,5.10, often straddled to 20 game that night and lost it all in one big pot.

The next afternoon, the same think happened and that happened for four days. Each afternoon, I won 4000 to5000 with lots of luck and lost it that night.

On my last day and night in town, I won $4500 again and tried to get in the big game but it was full and there was a list. I went home that winner for the trip. I didn't realize it under the bright Vegas lights but I had won $20 000 in one game and lost $16000 in the bigger game.

Later, Vegas became all limit unless the World Series was in town, I played 10/20 and 15/30 and moved up only a few times to 20/4o. The 20;40 games at Bellagio and Mirage were way tougher than the 10/20. It was the difference in night and day. It was a whole lot better gamble to play the lower game.

That's true now of the side cash games. Trying a short bankroll at the 10/25 blind no-limit is not as good as staying where you know what you are doing.

It is about risk and how much gamble you have in you. I have a concept of a smart gambler who looks for his niche, specialty, and a game that fits his bankroll and style. I used to gamble above my bankroll all the time but I don't ever need to do that again.
