Staying friends with an ex...

Postby GodlikeRoy » Fri May 26, 2006 8:42 am

Help a 18 year old guy who's only ever had one serious relationship out.

A bit of background info. We met through a friend of ours and started going out a couple of months after that. She is 5 years older than me. We broke up maybe a year ago after going out for about 8 months. It was an intense relationship and we were either at each others throats or inside each others pants the whole time, it just got too much for the both of us in the end, fighting nonstop for a week sometimes, plus i was an immature sh*t back then and did some things i'm not proud of that hurt her pretty badly so yeah.. it just didn't work. We broke up and stopped talking completely for a month or two and then she contacted me again and we started talking. A few more months and things went to shit so we stopped talking completely again and once again a month later she contacts me. I was very skeptical of letting her back into my life but figured to give it one last shot.

During this whole period of talking on and off, we'd toy with the idea of getting back together and occasionally hooking up for the one night together but recently we've both decided that neither of us want to get together again and there's basically no chance of it ever happening. We decided to make some 'boundaries' in our friendship, ie, certain topics/things are offbounds and can't be spoken about, not more reminiscing about us together or hooking up because we're both horny and/or lonely. We also agred to not talk about any relationships we get involved in unless it gets serious, at least for a while, just so neither one of us gets jealous or whatever.

Do we stand any chance?

I think it's good that you've set these rules. However, it seems that the relationship volatility may still carry over with this girl. Best of luck but sometimes it won't work. The fact she was your first serious girlfriend probably makes it harder than the same situation with futures exes.

Kara and I share an apartment. Our relationship was REAL rocky.

Btw, how in the hell can only ONE person have replied to this poll? I see polls with 2 people posting replies and 20+ people answering the poll, this thread has like 5 replies and 1 poll response

the only way i could ever get over a girl was to completely cut her out of my life for a long time. unless you're just a glutton for pain, you should just flush the idea of being close friends with this broad right down the toilet.

When I play a patient and relaxed game I win - that simple.
