Always liked stan getz, autumn leaves and all. I have a good live cd of him in europe (france or belgium I believe) which features jazz/blues crossover harmonica player sugar blue, pretty decent record to be honest. Haven't heard much of his recent stuff though much of my jazz taste is quite retro so his stuff generally appeals to me. I was under the impression he was a touch past his best musically but then as I say haven't heard anything he's done post-about 1990.

Bill Evans is a fairly new artist to me, though, I don't believe I have any of his stuff. What's his style like?

Most of Evans' stuff is "cool" jazz. AMG has solid recommendations in his discography. The five-star listings are classics, the 4s and 4.5s certainly won't disappoint. :D you can probably take a listen on amazon... you'll know if you like it or not within a minute or so.

As for Getz, there's a reason you haven't heard anything after 1991 -- that's the year he died.

Lol.... that would explain it. Most of my Getz recordings are from european material in the 70s and 80s. To be honest most of the jazz I like is of an earlier vintage than that, not because I think it's unworthy or anything but just because there's only so many hours in the day to listen to new things, so I tend to stick to my favourites (of which Getz is one). If I'm going through a period of trying out new things I tend to add to my already voluminous blues collection, which tends to contribute most of my signatures on here!

the 50s and 60s is when most of the jazz i like originated. some contemporary artists go back to the cool theme, but it all started back in the day.
