it wont ever happen.

it'll still cost a ton of money.

it'll still be corrupt.

and national politicians, with the exceptions of Russell Feingold, Ron Paul, and a couple others, will still be doing more harm than good.

I adore James Carville, because he lives in the same dreamworld I do. But, he thought it was a good idea to marry inter-party and for Hillary to head up changing health care. Only two of many mistakes he made in the 90s.

90% of incumbents are returned to office. Why would they vote for something that would level the playing field? People do what's in their own best interest. That's pretty much the problem you run into whenever there is a solution which goes against their interest. No doubt the lobbyists would be in favor of it, too. We're talking about a long unemployment line in D.C.

Our system of government is no longer Constitutional. There are people making laws--lobbyists--who are not elected. People don't vote. They don't ask questions. Most people don't even know who their congressman is! Seriously. Congress has so little apparent impact on our daily lives few care at all.

Prostitution isn't legal. Holding office is. At least with a prostitute, it's not us getting f*cked.

redhouse,

you may be right about the whole campaign finance thing......but look at it from another perspective....which is legislation, lobbyists in this country literally legally bribe politicians to vote their way. So regardless, it's still an issue.

This makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Which is why you know it won't happen.

Does anybody here, even through a third-party story, know of a SUCCESSFUL regular US/UK politician, of any political orientation who hasn't used their position to improve their own standing in some way? No?

Politicians and poker players have a lot in common. Just poker players don't pretend they're shitting in the weak people's cornflakes for society's good...
