Looking for the best computer system to play poker

Postby Danhdan » Wed Jan 05, 2005 6:45 am

Hey all. I am looking for a system that will have enough memory, enough screen space so I don't have to squint, and that is about it. Other games are secondary to me, but it would be helpful to get a system that could play some games that I won't win money at.

I'm guessing this system needs a 17" monitor or greater which is fine, and I don't care if I get CRT or LCD(let me know which you prefer; I need info on monitors)

I am looking to spend between $400-$1000, but the cheaper the better of course.
I play at Party Poker on the NL tables, and I want to do three tables at a time, but the memory in my OLD computer along with the monitor being old really makes that impossible.

If anyone out there has some advice and some information on the best systems, what I should look for, and what can accomplish my goals, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance...

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

This is a pretty good deal without the monitor:

This is for the intel fans:

This is a great price for a monitor, and has the features I reccomended:

Another good choice:

This is a california based company that is spreading nationwide, and they do their service in-house, a tech is always on duty. They offer pricematching at some stores, and can hold their own against any competition.
I do not know if they can ship overseas, but they ship in the US.

The best US online reseller is NewEgg. But PCClub has a local store here now.

Thank you for the quick responses...Rhound50, be as specific as you want; in fact, go ahead and write down an entire menu of options for a new computer that you would look for if you have the time...

Low Dough, I will look at both PCclub and New Egg. I think I used to go to the first Fry's store here in sunnyvale(or was it Santa Clara?) and lived by them forever, but in the area I live in, sometimes I can find the same item for cheaper in another store. Costco makes me weary because I actually work for them for 3+ years a long time ago, but I have access to both and will check them out.

So, definitely 1600x1200 is the best for no overlap and that will be found on a 19" CRT?

The resolution is usually listed on the side of the box, making it easy to see if it supports it.
Another thing to check for is the refresh rate at the maximum resolution. It should be above 60Hz to help reduce eyestrain.
