Letter to Pokerstars

Postby Twelver » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:15 pm

I sent the following letter to Pokerstars today:

Dear Pokerstars,

I have played 26 consecutive tournaments without a cash. I am a winning player...I have won several thousand in the past from your site. This downswing is making my wife want to kill me. For the sake of my life please flip my doom switch to off.

Thanks,
twelver1232

I will let you know how they respond.

F spellcheck and all that other shiat.

Thier response...I am a little dissapointed...was expecting a little more humor:

Hello John,

I am sorry that you feel that you have had a bad run on our site lately,
however, I can assure you that our shuffle is completely random, and if
you are experiencing a large number of bad beats at the moment, maybe you
will feel better if I tell you that you are not the only one.

We flat out deny that this has anything to do with the shuffle algorithm
here at PokerStars - it's simply the nature of the game of poker and the
fact that time speeds up by a factor of 3 playing online so you see, and
unfortunately will take more beats; You will give more beats too, they
are just less memorable.

We all experience them. You cant avoid it with cards being dealt
randomly. Being random you will experience hands being beaten by lesser
holdings both in real life and online.

Our shuffle is completely random, favoring or disfavoring no player
over any other. The computerized methods we use to shuffle the deck
are more than sufficient to ensure complete randomization of the
cards, and complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can
see the description of these methods at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html

In addition, we track all hands dealt daily to see if there is any
statistically significant variance.

In fact, we gave the source code to two independent auditors who
reviewed our shuffle algorithm and found it sound and random. You may
read the analyses of these auditors at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/rng_audit.html

We have dealt over 6,000,000,000 hands, and have freely given out real
money hand histories any time somebody has requested them. Not once
has anybody found any indication that our shuffle is not 100% random,
and many who have undertaken such studies have posted their findings
to the Internet. You may find just two of them here:

If you have further questions about this, please don't hesitate to
contact us.

Regards,

Dan C

I'm sure a simple "We turned off your doom switch, have a nice day, you should when your next tournament" would have been sufficient. No need to go into all that random shuffle crap.

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.
