Best war movie of all time, bar none. Generally I think Kubrick's later works suck ass (see: Eyes Wide Shut), but this one was a flat out masterpiece.

What's amazing about it is that Pyle's played by Vincent D'Onofrio from Law and Order:CI. Fantastic actor, fantastic movie...

Yep, great film. Did you know the bit in the bombed out viet city at the end was actually filmed at Docklands in London (before it became all "urban regenerated" - it's unrecognisable now and full of multi-million buildings).

To this day I never tire of telling people that they "look like they could suck a golfball through a hosepipe".

My favourite war films (off the top of my head):

1) Apocalypse Now
2) Das Boot
3) Full Metal Jacket
4) The Great Escape
5) The Dambusters

Oh, and Schindler's List, obviously, though the war stuff is more incidental in that one..

Kelly's Heroes, The Big Red One, a bunch of others too, plus the ones previously mentioned of course!

FMJ is amazing though...

"Million dollar play, ten cent finish."

My fave War movies...

1) Full Metal Jacket
2) Platoon
3) Hamburger Hill
4) Apocalypse Now
5) Heartbreak Ridge (cheesy, but funny)

Some great lines from Heartbreak Ridge...

"I've guzzled more beer, banged more quiff and pissed more blood than all you numb nuts put together"

Reese: "You're going to pay full price Rummy! I don't give no serviceman's discount!"
Highway: "That's too bad, you're old lady does."
"Every man is a but spark in the darkness"
