So I bought this new TV for my desk so I can play marathon sessions (see latest journal entry) without wanting to kill myself. So far all I've been watching is TV shows.
You'd be amazed how quickly a few discs of a TV series can go by when you're 9 tabling and always have an episode playing. Unfortunately, since I'm busy 97% of the time (I play a LOT of hands) the television is only slightly more than pleasent background noise. I find it works best with things I've already seen several times (like a lot of my Seinfeld and Family Guy episodes), so I still can sort of follow whats going on without much thought.
When I watch new episodes of shows, especially of shows I'm only a season or so in to (Futurama, Home Movies, Newsradio), I end up pressing play, and all of the sudden the episode is over and I have little idea what actually happend.
I've decided to buy a bunch of movies on DVD to serve the same purpose. I figured that comedies would be best, cause who wants to try and follow a drama while 9-tabling?
Comedies I love:
Happy Gilmore
Big Daddy
Me, Myself, and Irene
Jackass 1 and 2
Dumb and Dumber
Dumb and Dumberer (just kidding that shit was awful)
Starsky and Hutch
Meet the Parents
Comedies I didn't like that popular opinion tells me I'm supposed to love:
Wedding Crashers
Billy Madison
Garden State (I dunno if that goes under comedy, but shit all my friends made me think it was gonna be some fantastic movie, and it was a major letdown for me)
Note: Me, Myself, and Irene, Big Daddy, and Happy Gilmore were all not thoroughly enjoyable for me the first times I watched them, they seemed the really improve after watching them a couple more times for me, and now I love them. I have only seen the ones listed that I didn't like that much once or twice, so I will be purchasing wedding crashers and trying to get myself to like it anyway.
Please list for me some of your favorite comedies (preferabbly not really "smart" comedies as focus is not going to be very intense during watching) that have very high rewatchability ratings.
Boy, you got me confused with a man who repeats himself.
