College Bowl Games

Postby iceman5 » Sat Dec 31, 2005 3:42 pm

Bowl games are easy to pick. Youre going to think Im kidding, but Im not. Any Bowl game which has 2 "real" teams playing...take the underdog.

The win record is hard to believe. Forget about whos playing who or what conference is better...just take the dog.

Im not talking about a game with Toledo and UTEP. Im talking about 2 "real" teams.

So far this year you would be 8-1. Ive made alot of money over the past several years doing this, but I didnt do it this year because I didnt follow college football much. I did bet one game. I took Oregon -3 vs Oklahoma. Why? Because Im an idiot. It doesnt matter that Oregon shouldve beat OU fairly easily. What matters is that most of these teams dont play each other and have few common opponents so the linesmakers dont know how to set the lines.

Any of these "real" teams can beat another one so just take the points.

Make it 9-1 now. TCU was favored by 3 1/2 and only won by 3.

Florida was a pick em . I dont count games that are even or 1 point at all.

Make it 12-1 now with the West Virginia win. They were 7 point dog and won outright.

2 games left. I do think USC is going to kill Texas though.

I think USC will jump out to a big lead early, then Vince Young is going to put on a second half performance that will come about nine points short. I can't imagine the defenses holding either team down for long in this one. USC 45 Texas 36

Slightly off-track, but am I the only one who hates the way they are stringing these out now? I prefered being completely and totally overdosed on football at the end of New Year's Day. That was the way it's supposed to be.

Second, before Christmas, Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio opined that college football should not go to a playoff format. What's wrong with 30 teams going home happy? he asked. I really agree with him. There have been some great football games in the bowl games that "don't mean anything." Does anyone really care about the national championship? Really care? Wouldn't it be refreshing if college football made a statement that playing the game is what it's truly all about? Wouldn't it be nice if one place in the country wasn't about "who is the best." That winning it all isn't the end all be all.

Just a thought.

Sports betting has to be my biggest vice when it comes to gambling as a whole. The other trend that is glaring in bowl games however is overs.

There was an article in card player about your trend Iceman. Underdogs have performed well the past few years.

Notre Dame didn't cover the spread and on that note I am happy to say to Mr. Weis that offence doesn't do much against a real solid defence. I think Texas will beat USC. Texas will not be suprised by USC's speed and USC will be shocked with how physical Texas plays defense.

I was sure that the Badgers would be an exception, that Auburn was going to crush them. But no, we won! We dominated them! Wtf was up with that?

Nice way for Barry to go out.

I was thrilled that Wisconson beat Auburn all I kept hearing was how the Badgers didn't have a chance.
