Seems like you can change the CPU to one that the motherboard supports. Concensus seems split on the video card, though with 256MB I don't think it should be a big issue. Beyond anything else it's tricky sticking a better video card in and being able to cool it/ power it.

Just buy an external hard drive to keep stuff that you don't really NEED to have at all times on your computer.

Just get a external HD. I got a 320 GB + an external kit for a total of like 120$. As for updating the actual internal components you can upgrade the RAM easily. Updating the HD would require copying all your current files over and most likely reinstalling the operating system on it since you can't have 2 HD's inside the laptop at once like a desktop.
