Argnetina vs Mexico (Spoilers)

Postby Felonius_Monk » Sat Jun 24, 2006 1:52 pm

Well, 1-1 at half time, great game, but is this referee Argentinian or something??? After 19 red cards in this tournament, some of which have been hopelessly soft, and Heintze brings down a Mexican player clean through on goal with a shin-high, studs up tackle. The 2nd most blatant sending off of the tourney so far (behind De Rossi's elbow) and he only gets yellow. This after Lucic was sent off for Sweden today (well, got a 2nd yellow) for what I thought was barely even a foul. Some of the other decisions have been heavily weighted in Argentina's favour, too. For me one of the most disappointing things about some of the poor refereeing from this tourney is that a lot of the decisions seem to be favouring the bigger teams - they really don't need the help.

Anyhow, best game of the tourney so far and let's hope the 2nd half is as good. But let's be fair, if Mexico don't win from here, they've been robbed by the ref, just as several of the other smaller teams have been by the over-fussy and often pretty poor refereeing.

Well i can say that so far mexico is dominating the game and that probably Heinze should got the red card on that last play... but besides that i haven't seen any other bad calls really...
I hope Tevez or Messi gets in , because Argentina is in need of some magic legs and some of that magic play that a few players can show.

Yeah, they should put Tevez on up front with Crespo. Saviola's run up too many blind alleys and I think Argentina need someone who will work hard, give them some aggression and aerial strength up front. Maybe Messi for Riquelme too, as he's not quite hit his usual heights, but then again he can always create a goal out of nothing and Mexico are leaving a lot of space 15 yards outside their area, where Riquelme likes to be...

Anyways, looking forward to the second half but it'll leave a bit of a sour taste if Argentina win a close one because that was one of the most nailed-on red cards I've ever seen. With all the poor reffing performances this WC, they'll have to bring Collina out of retirement for the final I think

OK, I have a little problem when I record. I'm trying to TIVO the matches, so can anyone tell me how long a match that goes through to penalty kick would be in real time? Any estimates would be helpful, thanks.

It sucks when you just get on the TV and the score is 2-1 in the 125th minute and you don't have the overtime recorded.
