I can't stand The Jam, never could. Something about those flattened suburban vowels and rubbish he spouted back in the day - stuff like a Small Faces album cover being better than any Picasso, and how everyone should go and vote Tory. An old mate of mine knew him from the days when he used to silkcscreen print Tshirts in Camden, and said he was a right horrible c[]nt. Anyway...
I was expecting to see Mr Thompson make an appearance here, so I'm not disappointed. Not my bag, but it's hard not to appreciate the musicianship and commitment.
You posted Booker White before, and he's a winner, no question. I'm glad you've brought him to a wider audience.
I can't forgive Babybird for You're Gorgeous.
Right, music lovers - for your delectation, I offer:
1 Syd Barrett. I couldn't find any original footage of Himself doing any of his solo stuff, so I thought I'd post this instead - an 18 year old(!) from Syd's home town of Cambridge doing a mighty fine version of Terrapin. I hear Syd's stripped down, simple structures everywhere.

2 Beefheart , what can you say? A stunning mix of European Modernism and old Blues, John Peel said his music was "outside of 'rock n' roll' and more in common with Art with a capital A", and that CB was the "only genius" in pop music.

3 Television - their sound is almost too rich to be true, and Verlaine is one of the great unsung guitar heroes.

4 Sex Pistols. I can't describe the impact they had on the UK, musically and culturally. Within a few months we'd all thrown out our flares and had cut our hair short (unless you were a stupid disco kid). Although I think they had better songs (Holidays In The Sun, Satellite), this one says it all. Released to coincide with Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee, no less. Peerless.

5 Miles and Coltrane. Don't say you don't like jazz until you've heard this. Miles' trumpet playing is probably the saddest sound I've ever heard. This is So What from the Kind Of Blue album.
