another possibility is to be a prop player. you play lots of HU and 3-4 handed, and they pay you for playing. it's basically a 100% rakeback plus/minus 10%.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this full time, but it is something you could do in addition to whatever else you do. I've read about a guy at 2+2 doing this on 5/10s. He said he makes $50/hr from prop work and 1 bb/100 at the tables.
one potential pitfall is that sometimes you have to play against good players who have sweet rakeback deals (although not as sweet as a prop deal).
