2006 Goals.

Postby Xaston » Wed Dec 07, 2005 2:50 pm

2005 is coming to a close and I wrote a little post in my journal about my goals for the coming year and it made me wonder, what are everyone elses?

Amount of $ won? Play X hands? Reach such and such a limit. Learn this game. Learn that game. Play a $10,000 tournament. Etc.

Any and all poker goals you have for the coming year, let's hear em.

1) Stop taking MVP's advice.

2) Put aside my relationship issues with the avocado.

3) Play poker more regularly.

4) Make some good use of my single bedroom apartment (aka. hook up with more women).

Oh wait.. only poker-related? Ah well.

I must say that I am really happy with my current state of affairs in poker - I've enjoyed a nice run since moving to the 5/10 (6 max) instead of the 10/20 full. It allowed me to keep a smaller bankroll online, while winning at the same (or even higher) rate, with smaller swings. Allowed me to pay a chunk off of my mortgage, refinance, and then pay off my high interest school loans. :D This is a VERY good thing.

I have a feeling that in the coming year, Party is going to open a 25/50 NL, so 10/20 might become the 6 max. With this in mind, my goal for the near future is to try and work my roll up to 10/20 status again by not cashing out all my winnings.

I also rarely get the chance to play tournies, but I would like to do so. My 2 tournament goals for 2006 are to play in the million dollar guaranteed on Party at least once, and make a serious effort to qualify for the Main Event @ the World Series.

If that doesn't pan out - I definitely want to play in at least one event in the series.

Zuccala, if youre talking about PTBBs in goal #2, then I think you will be disaapointed quite a bit which will make goal #5 almost impossible.

According to rectent studies, only 7% of players are long term winner. Very very few people are winning more than 10PTBBs long term, even at $100NL. I dont think anyone is winning that much at $200NL or higher no matter what they tell you.

I keep hearing that "recent studies suggest only x% of players are long-term winners" but never a source!

I dont remember all the details, but one of the poker sites said that there records showed that 7% of players were winners.
