Do you bet this river?

Postby AlexMR » Wed Sep 14, 2005 10:02 pm

Villain is a fish. I misplayed this completely.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.50 BB (9 handed)

UTG ($83.50)
UTG+1 ($38.60)
MP1 ($19.50)
MP2 ($63.30)
MP3 ($52.90)
CO ($18.05)
Hero ($50)
SB ($53.05)
BB ($9.90)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Ks], [Kh].
4 folds, MP3 calls $0.50, CO calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2.5, 2 folds, MP3 calls $2, CO folds.

Flop: ($6.25) [Td], [Jd], [Qs] (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $4, MP3 calls $4.

Turn: ($14.25) [Th] (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets $8, MP3 calls $8.

River: ($30.25) [7d] (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: $30.25

Results in white below:
MP3 has Jc As (two pair, jacks and tens).
Hero has Ks Kh (two pair, kings and tens).
Outcome: Hero wins $30.25.

The turn bet was too damned weak. The problem was the time. I was almost folded because of not acting in time.

Alex... I don't have any real problem w/ the way you played your hand... Raising 5xBB PF and having the flop come down QJT is about the WORST possible flop EVER... There are at least twice as many hands he'd call with that have you beat there...

Honestly, I may have played it even more weak/tight than you... I probably would've bet $6 on the flop and checked behind the turn... When the T comes, Id've been like PHUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! I want a showdown here as cheap as possible...

NO WAY I bet that river...

oh good lord no don't bet the river. i would be pretty sure you're ahead here, but that is just too scary of a board to value bet into.

y'know, i might check this flop and go into check-call mode against a bad player. b/c you know he's playing. also, wanna keep the pot small and try to hit my draw. can maybe do something later w/ representing AK here, too.

i kinda think that's a good turn card. for instance, you just outdrew QJ, and he's much less likely to have a T here than a Q/J. i would grit my teeth and bet like you did, maybe a bit more to like $10, since he's bad.

Where do you think you messed up Alex? I don't value bet the river especially after betting the flop and turn, he wants a showdown and one pair looks fragile.

You are ahead of AJ and AQ, and even a fish might have AA AK QQ JJ or AT.

I probably slow down after the raise preflop bet the flop to check call a reasonable river bet mode here too after the flop.

I'd put out a bigger bet on that flop.. I usually try to at least double my preflop raise with my flop bet.

That being said.. I probably would have checked the turn. Then if the opponent checked again..I would have value bet the river.
