When to make a continuation bet?

Postby mecha » Wed Aug 17, 2005 9:54 pm

I usually make continuation bets in position with two or fewer callers but with this flop texture I think it was a bad idea. Thoughts?

Something went wrong with the converter but i raised preflop and got two callers.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (10 handed)

MP2 ($182.15)
MP3 ($138.70)
CO ($137.50)
Button ($79.20)
SB ($129)
BB ($71.50)
Hero ($201.75)
UTG+1 ($195)
UTG+2 ($338.15)
MP1 ($58)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qh], [Ah].
7 folds, SB completes, BB calls $0.

Flop: ($4) [7s], [5h], [6s] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $15, SB raises to $30, BB calls $30, Hero folds.

Turn: ($79) [8s] (2 players)
SB checks, BB bets $32.5 (All-In), SB folds.

Final Pot: $111.50

It looks like the converter didn't work quite right... it doesn't show you limping in pre-flop.
And betting $15 into a $4 pot isn't a continuation bet.

But I think that's also the converter?

If its checked to me and I raised preflop, I'm firing on that flop too yet depending on my reads of opponents. It sucks when they check raise you on this flop, but you took your stab and you obviously dont have the best hand (check min raise/overcall by the BB, watch out!). Nothing more you can do IMO.

i wouldn't put a continuation bet into this flop. Its too coordinated and you got two callers. I would check behind and hope to pick up another heart or maybe and A or Q and see if that is good enough.

Also, UTG, I like to limp with AK and AQ most times depending on the table. I don't want to be playing that out of position. preflop worked out well for you this time.
