Very strange river bet

Postby GooperMC » Thu Sep 15, 2005 8:57 pm

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

Hero ($30.90)
CO ($24.78)
Button ($22.10)
SB ($4.75)
BB ($34.10)
UTG ($13.65)
UTG+1 ($20.20)
MP1 ($33.50)

MP2 ($9.55)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [Qc], [Ad]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
4 folds, Hero calls $0.25, 1 fold, Button raises to $0.5, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.25.

Flop: ($1.35) [9c], [4c], [8s] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.

Turn: ($1.85) [3h] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.

River: ($2.35) [Qh] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets$21.10. Hero???

This guy was VERY loose (VP$IP 95, W$SD 25) with average agression.

2 questions:
1) Should I be calling those $.25 bets on the flop, turn.
2) I was trying to get him to bluff into me on the river but I just don't know what to do with that bet. What should I do with that bet?

I usually don't fold to mini bets when I have two over cards. But you have to fold to that river bet even if you have the best hand. For all you know that guy has Q3. I don't think you have enough invested to lose that much.

this seems like a classic overbet to make it seem like he's bluffing. I don't call this as if he is doing stuff like this alot, I will get him with a much better hand.

I don't think i can fold to the mini bets and if I was in position, i would definitely be raising him at some point. i'm not sure OOP.

I see this play constantly on prima. bet small, bet small, HUGE bet on the river. for a couple days I decided to call those bets... everyone i called i lost. So next time this kind of play happens, you know what to do.

BTW... I don't agree with calling the mini bets. It might be ok if you were drawing to something... but not just two overs. If you're gonna call..then just raise him a good amount. There's no reason to be in this hand unimproved, just calling it down.. Make a stand and put pressure on your opponent..
