AK UTG.. weak?

Postby kennyg » Tue Sep 06, 2005 10:28 pm

1/2 NL. Notes on opponent says he likes to slow play. I have $200 and have recently sat down, he has me covered.

Dealt [Ad][Ks] UTG.

I limp. 3 LP callers and the Blinds complete and check.

FLOP $12 6 handed.
[3c][7h][As]

Blinds both check. I bet $10. Villian in MP calls. Everyone else folds..it's heads up.

TURN$32
[3c][7h][As][Th]

I bet $20. Villian raises to $40.

I fold.

Thoughts???

If we all folded TPTK like that we would be showing a slightly better profit I think. Good IMHO. What are you beating, AQ?Since you didnt raise he could be in a lot of hands, but I think it s ok to fold. That minraise is kind of scary to me.

Some might say you had to bet closer to full pot on the turn, but I like it the way you play it. I am finding myself putting much pressure with those hands lately. Not good results.

I fold aswell. There is a huge likley hood he called u with a weak A and has 2 pair. Since u did not raise PF he could be diddling around with anythiing really.

I think it is a good fold. One that I should be making more often as AK offsuit is my biggest loser right know with 12000 hands in my DB.

My experience with that hand has been consistantly getting beat with some piece of xxxx two pair. I'm sure he probably had A 10 or A 7.

I tend to agree with Cactus Jack in that perhaps a bigger bet on the flop might be in order. Either you win it right there or he calls a $15-$20 bet on the flop and you can pretty much assume you are behind on the hand.

Question for you Kenny, do you normally limp with this hand UTG or were you hoping for a check raise? Just wondering as I can't seem to do anything right with this hand lately.

This is pure risk vs. reward here.

If you call that turn min raise, now what? If he puts pressure on you on the river you'll have to fold. You are not really beating that many hands right now either. Lots of risk.

Okay, let's check out the reward side. Yuck. How are you going to improve your hand so that you get a big payday. A King? Maybe, but you still don't know if you're against a set. There isn't really a way for you to take a hammer lock and feel good about playing a big pot. Little reward.

Lots of risk + little reward = FOLD

However, if your notes are ironclad on and this guy always slowplays, then he might have Ax and you are ahead.

Unless my read was really strong, I still fold.

trodgers,

my notes states he likes to slow play. i think he slow played the flop and then came in for a mini raise on the turn with a set or two pair.

My thoughts on that matter was I didn't think he would mini raise me on the turn there unless he had Two pair, set, or perhaps AK and AQ.

There was a small chance I was beating him..but since his range of hands was so big, I thought the fold was best. I didn't wanna see how much he was gonna bet on the river.

CJ I like your idea about overbetting the flop in this situation. i may start doing that in similar situations. I think in the long run it would save me money.
