Two Pair on a board gone wrong, open for comment...

Hey,

I either played this real well or really really bad, but I have no clue which. The bad guy had been on a bit of streak but I had down as weak tight despite his winning. This was after only 60 hands mind.

Party Poker (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with [Th], [Jh].
8 folds.

Its gone a bit wank here. Right I raise $4 to open. Folds to bad guy who calls $4, all others behind fold too.

Flop: [Jd], [2s], [Ts] (2 players)

I lead for $7, he raises $20, I raise $38 and he calls $25.

Turn: [8h] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks.

River: [9c] (2 players)

I bet $40, he raises all-in $200 plus. I fold

Final Pot:

Results below:

Button doesn't show.
Outcome: Button wins .

Any or all comments appreciated.

Honestly, I think you played this horribly.

I'm assuming this is $100 NL since you raised to $4?

Flop
If you're going to reraise...why reraise minimum? Build the pot, show some muscle.

Turn
Pot is around $90. You can't expect a better flop then this. If he has you beat, then so be it. Go All-in and protect your hand.

River
Check in front of him. (if you moved allin it wouldn't be an issue of course)

This is the problem with raising and/or playing this hand out of position.

On the flop it looks like you played it well, most would play top 2 the same way, but I might go ahead and push here if i didn't think he had a set.

If you were willing to check the turn b/c of the 8 as a scare card. Or even if you checked to get to a cheaper SD, then why didnt you check the river when an even scarier card came out. And $40 is a pretty weak bet here considering the pot size...
If you're going to bet that river go ahead and bet the pot, so it doesn't look like the 9 scared you.

I think you played it alright until the river, these situations are real tough, that's why I like to get my money in on the flop here unless I think I might be against a set.

just my 2 cents
