TPTK facing an allin and possibly 2...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Fri Aug 12, 2005 1:58 am

2/5NL live game... Mostly nuts... A couple decent players, including all 3 on this particular hands... Buyin is $300, which kinda sucks a little, but oh well... I have about $500, BB has $400+, and MP2 has $185...

I get dealt [Ad] [Kc] on the button... folds to MP2 ($185), who raises to $15, which DEFINITELY isn't a tremendous raise in this game... I call... BB calls... I was gonna reraise, but I'd been watching the table ALL NIGHT hitting TPWK and not being able to let go... So, I figure what the hell... Hopefully he's raising AJ,AQ...

Pot is $47... FLOP is [Ks] [Ts] [4c] ... SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET :D 8-) :D 8-)

Action on BB... I'm figuring he's gonna check, let MP bet, I'll raise and pray to got he's got KQ or KJ... Suprisingly, BB leads out into the raiser for $75    ... Then, MP RAISES allin-for $170 total...

I'm thinking about raising allin to isolate with MP and praying he doesn't have Aces... But, there was some chip discrepancy w/ the BBs chip stack (he was in the 1 seat, and I was in the 9... So, I couldn't see how many chips he had, and they kept telling me different amounts when telling me his total...)... And, during this whole time, I could see BB AT LEAST dying to call MP's raise, and didn't seem too disturbed by my reraise...

What's the right play...? Is it too weak/tight to fold here...?

It looks like a set versus a made straight (or possibly a big draw like [As][Js]). I'd thow away my hand and set the cards on fire. This is crazy action - there's no way your hand is good.

you say that the BB is decent and looking dying to call the hand. You only have $15 invested and there are warning signs all over. Even if you are ahead, you may not be ahead by much. I fold and look for a better spot.

Majakovskij, there is no made straight possible but your AJs or AQs could be spot on. I'm seeing a set of T's or 4's against AJs, AQs or KT.

gotta fold that to two decent players. my guess is you're drawing to two Ks at most.

Online this is an easy fold to this kind of action in a game that runs this size.... live depending on your opponents it is a very hard one or easy one.

How has the BB played sets in the past? Does he check raise and slow play on dangerous boards? How does he play his draws? QJ isn't out of the question here. Would he make this move with KJo?

If you know nothing about the above folding until you know something is best. Although folding TPTK to a ton of action is never a bad play as you can find better spots to make your money. It looks like these guys are tossing chips around left and right.

If you can be reasonably sure that he doesn't ever play sets this way, then you are most likely a coin flip to large favorite and calling or raising is more reasonable.

I would ignore initial raiser at this point and kind of hope he has the set, as the side pot is going to be bigger than the main pot anyways.

Online I'm folding.

Live I have no experience so I'm folding too. (How useful a comment is THAT?)

easy fold. wouldnt be surprised to see a hand like A4 spades or K10 out there, as well as the possibility of a set or AA, all of which are hands you really don't want to go up against for your stack

It's okay Maja... you're cute enough (or at least your avatar is...) that I can oversee slight mistakes... :D :D :D

BB was a halfway decent player, and him overbetting the pot like that seemed to me to be trying to steal it there... I mean, he bets $75 into $47... Plus, these guys are IN LOVE with slowplaying... Even the good ones, and even on a pretty scary board... So, I know no ones got trips...

MP was a better player than BB, but had gotten beaten up a little by the crazies, and could've been a little on tilt...

I was ready to push against either of these guys... But, when the first OVERBETS the pot, and MP goes over the top allin.... What the hell am I ahead of...?

I actually had their hands backwards... I thought BB had AK also and MP had K10... Turned out the other way around... no ace hits, and K10 takes it...

I thought that it was a good fold, and got NOTHING but crap from the other guys at the table for folding there... At least until the K10 held up... They were calling me a super rock, saying I wouldn't call a bet unless I had pocket quads ... I just smiled and walked out up $1100 8-) 8-) 8-)

I was trying to explain that I couldn't see ANY way that I wasn't a split AT BEST there... Even if I was best NOW, meaning nobody has K10, there's also a good chance I'm going to be dodging flush cards or straight cards, which isn't what I want to gamble all my money on...

Normally, I would agree... I don't like to show my cards... But, these people suck such donkey balls that they don't give a flying crap one way or another... There are 1 or 2 players I would consider "good", and they already know to basically stay out of my way when I'm betting...

Actually, I actually WANT them to try to play more aggressively with me, as I saw them calling raises w/ AJ, 2 allins pocket 4s v. 6s on a AK972 board, a couple $150 hands WON w/ Jack high...

Think of it this way... I had about $500 at that point... in the span of about 20 hands after that, I had KK twice, QQ twice, JJ twice... Got called down EVERY time, and won 5 of 6... Won a nice 3 way pot where I raised PF with pocket Qs... Bet every street of a 742 flop, a J turn, and was crappin a brick when they were BOTH still in when the river paired the 4... One guy had Q7, the other had 97... Ended the session up about $1100...

Good fold and BTW don't let them know what you had. I have done this a few times in live play and I do not think it is a good idea. It will come back to haunt you IMO.

Advertising is good or bad depending on how you use it.

Last week in a live game I showed my folded QQ on a T high board. The guy who had KK said "Fuck! I would've called if I was you". So now everyone thinks they can push me off my hands. WRONG!

Showing your cards is a weapon. Use it.
