Thoughts on this push

Postby Magz » Sat Sep 24, 2005 9:44 am

Some background first, I sometimes take a stab at 0.50/1 this was one of those occations. The play at this table was terrible but I got **** cards so I just sat there and had no piece of it.
My vpip was down to like 7 cuz of the great cards I was delt.

So UTG calls and i limp from the CO with [Ah] [3h] button calls as well

flop is [6c] [3c] [Ad]

UTG bets 3$ and I raise to 8$, then he re-raises to 13$

OK so, I was actually pretty sure he had something like AJ or perhaps even a weaker ace, saw this play all the time. So I decide to push, figured I'll just take the pot right there instead of jerking around, If he had a set I would just have to buy a new monitor.

me and UTG have about full stack

He calls, so I have two questions
Was this a bad play?
What would you have put him on?

a set, he limped from EP.

I think he has 33 or AA and he was looking to re-raise it preflop.

or he's a donk and was limping 36s from EP, because that's about the only thing you're a ahead of. that and a big ace.

I don't know if i like the push. I think U are only gonna get called by a set. But this is a hard spot to be in. I may just call his reraise and and see what develops on the turn. If he fires another big bet at me there...im gone. Right now i'd be hoping to see the showdown for cheap.IMO

unless he's a muppet, don't push w/ just top and bottom pair. you bet ~$90 into a ~$24 pot. you're probably only going to get called by a better hand, but more importantly you're letting Ax get off easy. if you think he has a bare A, you don't want to automatically take it down right now, you want him to put more money in the pot as a huge dog.

a min reraise like that after betting out tends to be a big hand unless you have some other read. i would probably just call it and see what happens on the turn.

yup, u are off course right, the amount of bad cards I had recieved all evening got the best of me..

But my read was at least somewhat correct, he limped UTG with A 6o..
I felt that if he was lucky enough to get a set the first time I hit in the whole evening that 'll pay him off, but this just pissed me off :x

This is what happens when you dont have enough time to play, and when u finally have time to sit down, you're delt junk. ( for me atleast)

I don't like playing for my stack against a non-maniac with top-and-bottom pair. Usually when people play their top-and-bottom AGAINST me I have top two or a set.

notice that mini reraise....he's not bluffing and he wants action. procceed carefully after you see bets and raises like this.
