My opponent was a good player...and his overbet seemed like a ploy I would use with the nut flush.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (10 handed)

UTG+1 ($195.35)
UTG+2 ($203.30)
MP1 ($85.04)
MP2 ($189.80)
MP3 ($98)
CO ($104.85)
Button ($203.75)
SB ($389.75)
Hero ($289.90)
UTG ($94.35)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [5c], [Ac].
3 folds, MP1 raises to $5, 4 folds, SB calls $4, Hero calls $3.

Flop: ($15) [3d], [2c], [4d] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP1 bets $10, SB calls $10, Hero raises to $30, MP1 folds, SB calls $20.

Turn: ($85) [7d] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($85) [9s] (2 players)
SB bets $150, Hero folds, SB wins pot.

Final Pot: $235

He showed [Kd][2d] for the second to nut flush.

thoughts??

This post Kenny proves exactly why you are a better poker player than me... I would've hated myself in the morning, but probably would've called... I see your point about the overbet, and will try (...praying...) to incorporate that into my game next time I'm in that situation... Keep the good info coming  ...

Kenny, one question though... if you were in his situation, would you have called a $30 bet w/ a pair of twos chasing the non-nut flush? I mean it obviously turned out well for him, but I may have folded to your raise...
Thanks... MVP

I may very well have because our stacks were big. I had about $300 he had me covered

Al a bigger raise probably would have been better. I was hoping the $70 shortstack would move in on me...that obviously didn't happen however.

I like a bigger raise also. Mainly because I would put the preflop min raiser on a pair. Either he has an overpair and will call more...or he could have a set and will probably move in if you raise more.

Good fold though. The other stupidly popular min raise preflop hand is the Axs. Kxs is a new one...but still a good fold.
