AQ suited

Hey Guys,

This hand takes place at a $25NL table and I have $27, BB has $22(he is a flush chaser), and MP has $20

I get dealt [Ad][Qd] in EP and limp (hoping to trap weaker A) MP makes it $1.25,BB calls, as do I

Flop come [Jd][2d][As] pot: $4

BB leads for $1, I call (hoping MP raises, so i can push or make a big raise, and i dont want to lose him) MP calls

turn [8s] pot $7

BB leads again for a $1, i make it $5 (time to take control of this pot, and make a BD draw pay) MP folds, BB calls

river [5d] pot:$17

BB leads for $2, i make it $6, he calls

I win with the nut flush, he mucks

Now how did i play this? U guys like? What do u think BB had? I am thinking those were blocking bets and was on a smaller flush. I did not know how much more he would call on the river.

I made a mistake in original post. It was $5 i made it on the turn (still not enough). I agree u are right (again) that i should have gone bigger on the river. As always nice analysis!! Thanks!

Go all-in on the river... if he did chase a flush and hit he will not lay it down. I find that when people get the card they are looking for they dont fold even if they should.

I basically agree with the other opinions. I like your play until the river. Generally I would raise the flop, but if you're going with you think the other guy is likely to raise, calling is completely fine as long as you realize that a diamond on the turn will COMPLETELY kill your action. Once you've raised the turn a decent amount, no one is putting you on a flush draw at this point (except BTP'ers), you've gotta raise bigger on the river, you just gotta.

Without a read on MP as a very loose raiser I agree with MVP that you should fold preflop. He makes a real raise and you have an easily dominated hand.

After the flop I think you play it OK but you definetely need to bet bigger. If you had made it 7 on the turn instead of 5, the pot would have been 21 on the river, then you could have made a valueraise to 12 and you would have won a $45 pot instead of a $29 pot. Big difference. Actually, if you had made a good sized raise on the turn you could have pushed the river.

This was at $25NL and I was under the impression that AQ can be used alot like AK in EP when limping to trap a weaker Ace. There are lots of yoyo's that will raise with AJ,AT and even worse regulairly. However, if you guys do think it is a weak play, I will make sure from now on that I only call when i know the raiser will do do onlight values. Currently Ionly call raises with AQs OOP only on unknowns and loose raisers. I never call with AQs on a tight raiser.

It is not a habit i make, for the raiser has to be either loose or unknown. I will now drop the latter...THANKS!!
